Halfway between central Johannesburg and Sandton, Rosebank is a cosmopolitan suburb with a thriving nightlife and shopping scene. Its central location is ideal for exploring the diversity of Johannesburg, from the colourful pop-up shops of Maboneng to the luxury boutiques of Fourways, and the wilderness that stretches out to the west of the city. This compact suburb also has a distinctive style, one that regularly influences the rest of South Africa with its new trends and fashions.
Rosebank has a cutting-edge style, epitomised by the high-end boutiques and funky shopping malls. Rosebank is also where celebrities and designers hangout, where the bars attract a charismatic crowd and designers launch their new ideas. The streets around the Design District are a great example of Rosebank’s determination to be unique. The suburb is also proud of rejecting the shiny modernism seen elsewhere in Johannesburg. Instead of new buildings, it’s where traditional townhouses and concrete blocks have been refurbished into something with a unique edge.
Rosebank is one of very few Johannesburg suburbs on the Gautrain, a modern railway line that links Pretoria with Sandton, central Johannesburg, and O.R. Tambo International Airport. It’s comfortably the fastest way to reach Rosebank. The suburb is small and easy to get around on foot during the day, although taxis would be recommended after dark.
A great example of the suburb’s style is Rosebank Flea Market, situated on the rooftop with views stretching over the city.
