Where to stay near Patalavaca

About Patalavaca

Patalavaca dazzles sunseekers with a sandy, palm-fringed beach and turquoise water. The Gran Canaria resort has a laid-back vibe and is less crowded than popular resorts like Las Palmas and Maspalomas. Relax on the shimmering volcanic sand, cool off in the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy freshly-caught seafood.

Things to do

Soft sand and crystal-clear water make Playa de Patalavaca perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Lay down your towel on the sand or rent a sun lounger for the day. Small and sheltered, Playa de Aquamarina is just north of the main beach and is protected by a rocky pier. From here, it’s a short stroll to Playa Anfi del Mar, a postcard-perfect beach with golden sand imported from the Caribbean.

A handful of restaurants overlook the beach and will tempt you with ocean-fresh seafood. Enjoy Canary Islands specialties like “sancocho” salted fish served with potatoes and “salmorejo” rabbit cooked in tomato puree. Alternatively, head to the small supermarket to pick up supplies for a beach picnic.

For a change of scenery, head five minutes down the coast to the lively town of Arguineguin. Browse the colourful souvenir shops, stroll along the seaside promenade and enjoy lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Take your pick of three sandy beaches, including Las Marañuelas lined with palm trees and pink bougainvillea. On Tuesdays, the Arguineguin street Market attracts visitors from across the island. Arguineguin is also a launchpad for dolphin watching cruises.

Getting around

Patalavaca is located on the south coast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands archipelago. The town is compact and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars offer the freedom to explore Gran Canaria at your own pace. Gran Canaria Airport in Las Palmas is a 30-minute drive away. Local buses run between Patalavaca and Las Palmas in around one hour.
