Where to stay in Ogunquit

About Ogunquit

Translating in the indigenous Abenaki language to “beautiful place by the sea”, Ogunquit is a popular resort town on the southern coast of Maine. It boasts picture-perfect white sands and clifftop walking trails, as well as a vibrant arts scene exhibited at its museum and historic playhouse.

Things to do

Explore the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, situated on the waterfront overlooking Perkins Cove. It boasts an impressive collection of paintings, photography and graphics by American artists, as well as picturesque gardens dotted with unique sculptures.

A long peninsula between the Ogunquit River and Atlantic Ocean forms Ogunquit Beach, where white sands are backed by grassy dunes. Relax under a beach umbrella or take a dip in the shallow waters. Body boards and surfboards are also available for rent.

Soak up the coastal views along the clifftop walk of Marginal Way that connects Ogunquit Beach to Perkins Cove. Relax on one of the benches, admire the charming black-and-white lighthouse or follow the trails down to the shores to fossick in the tidal pools.

If you’re visiting during the warmer months, take in a performance at the renowned Ogunquit Playhouse, one of the last remaining summer theatres along the Straw Hat Circuit. This Heritage-listed playhouse hosts Broadway musicals and a children’s theatre program, with the likes of Gene Wilder and Bette Davis having graced its stage.

Getting around

Boston-Logan International Airport is just over one hour’s drive south of Ogunquit and there are regular trains from the nearby town of Wells to Boston and Portland. Trolleys connect Wells to Ogunquit and most of the town’s attractions are accessible on foot.
