With spectacular Blue Ridge Mountain views, Lynchburg cherishes its natural resources. You’ll find cycling and walking trails at Percival's Island Natural Area, which harbours indigenous plants, wildlife and migrating birds. With access to James River, the reserve also offers fishing, boating and water sports.

Take a 45-minute guided tour of the Federal-style 1800s Point of Honor home to see period furnishings and decor, including a rustic hearth kitchen. Lynchburg Museum provides a comprehensive timeline of events from 1607 to 2007, while the Legacy Museum of African American History highlights life during the Civil War and after.

Families can interact with world science and technology at Amazement Square. Visit the Amazement Tower to access four floors through a maze of tunnels, slides and climbing ladders. Exhibits include hands-on discoveries, such as simulating a city rainstorm and working on a local farm.

Along the charming Lynchburg Main Street you’ll find one-of-a-kind art and clothing in numerous galleries and boutiques. Start with house-roasted espresso at White Hart & Blackwater Coffee Co, then end the day at Apocalypse Ale Works, about 20 minutes’ drive away. Sample brews in the tasting room and eat street fare at drop-in food trucks.

Getting around

Rental cars are available within the city or at Lynchburg Regional Airport, less than 15 minutes’ drive from the city centre. Public buses, taxis, limos and rideshare services help you get around.
