Where to stay in Lincolnshire

About Lincolnshire

Stretching along the North Sea coast, Lincolnshire is a storied county in England’s East Midlands region. It centres around the cathedral city of Lincoln and is dotted with charming towns and villages surrounded by sprawling tracts of picturesque countryside.

Things to do

Whether you want to spot native wildlife, discover the county’s aviation past or get your adrenaline pumping on its thrilling roller coasters, Lincolnshire offers all of this and more.

Sightsee in Lincoln. In the heart of Lincolnshire is the county town of Lincoln, which centres around a majestic cathedral famed for its library designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Marvel at the Norman-built Lincoln Castle, which houses a copy of the Magna Carta, and dive into the local history at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life.

Discover Lincolnshire’s aviation heritage. Get up close to an Avro Lancaster, a Hurricane and a Spitfire at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre or visit the award-winning Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. Also nearby is the RAF Scampton Museum, which details the legacy of the 617 Squadron, otherwise known as the “Dambusters”.

Get your thrills at Fantasy Island. Located on Lincolnshire’s sunny east coast, Fantasy Island is packed with thrilling roller coasters and family-friendly rides. In addition to being a classic amusement park, it’s also home to the largest seven-day market in Europe and lies a stone’s throw from the sands of Ingoldmells Beach.

Spot grey seals at Donna Nook. Located on the low-lying coastline of north Lincolnshire, this nature reserve is believed to be named after a ship from the Spanish Armada that sank nearby in 1588. In addition to being home to a large colony of grey seals, the salt marsh is used for bombing practice by the Royal Air Force.

Getting around

Lincolnshire is about an hour’s drive from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Regular trains connect from London to Lincoln, Grantham and Stamford while buses travel between major towns throughout the county. Having your own car is the most convenient way of exploring Lincolnshire.
