Istanbul is well known for its traditional bazaars, but for a spot of modern shopping, locals and visitors head for the Istanbul Cevahir. Opened in 2005, it is one of the largest shopping malls in the world.

Well over 300 shops are present in the Istanbul Cevahir with international anchor stores such as Debenhams, Benetton, Guess World, Adidas, Topshop and Nine West. There are also major food chains among the nearly 50 restaurants including McDonald’s, KFC and Starbucks. A bowling hall, 12 cinemas and a roller coaster round out the entertainments within its 20 floors.

Istanbul Cevahir is located far north of the historic old town in the Turkish capital. Its nearest public transportation stop is Sisli, served by the Metro. A ride from central attractions such as Topkapi Palace and New Mosque takes over 30 minutes. It is significantly closer to Taksim Square, which lies less than 10 minutes away by Metro.

With a total floor space of 420,000 square metres, Istanbul Cevahir was a record-breaking shopping centre upon its opening in October 2005. Among its accomplishments is the large clock in the glass roof. With digits three metres tall, this clock is the second largest in the world.
