Where to stay in Dalyan (Mugla)

About Dalyan (Mugla)

Set on the Dalyan River, Dalyan is a laid-back town known for its ancient ruins, shimmering lake and loggerhead turtles. You can sunbathe on Iztuzu Beach, soak in mineral-rich mud baths and discover the "Turkish Amazon" on a boat cruise.

Things to do

Just across Dalyan River is the ancient ruined city of Kaunos. It was founded in the 9th century BC and was once one of Turkey's most important cities. Today you can peer into Lycian rock tombs, wander around the amphitheatre and climb up to the Acropolis for stunning views of the countryside.

The Sea Turtle Research, Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre sits at the southern end of Iztuzu Beach and offers a unique opportunity to view endangered loggerhead and green turtles. Golden sand and calm water also make it a fantastic beach for swimming.

To the north is the tiny village of Sultaniye, known for its bubbling thermal mud baths. It's perched on the shores of Lake Koycegiz and pampers bathers with mineral-rich waters. Dalyan is also famous for eerie Lycian-style rock tombs that have been carved into the cliff face. You'll get the best views from the riverside walking trail.

Known as the “Turkish Amazon”, the River Dalyan is brimming with wildlife. Boat trips are a fantastic way to discover the tangled wilderness. Most depart from the dock outside Kordon, Dalyan's oldest and most popular restaurant. It serves up tasty Turkish cuisine in a lush riverside garden.

Getting around

The easiest way to get around Dalyan is on foot. Local minibuses, also known as “dolmuses”, run to nearby towns like Fethiye and Marmaris. Rowboats and water taxis are also a popular way to get around. Dalaman International Airport is located 10 kilometres away.
