Where to stay in Conil de la Frontera

About Conil de la Frontera

Once a sleepy fishing village, today Conil de la Frontera will charm you with its golden beaches, historic architecture and lively nightlife. The resort is perched on the sun-drenched Costa de la Luz and promises a taste of life in laid-back Andalusia.

Things to do

Sandy beaches, hidden bays and secluded coves dot the coastline surrounding Conil de la Frontera. Los Bateles is a local favourite, with a long stretch of sand that’s perfect for sunbathing. Cool off in the crystalline water and sign up for lessons at one of the surf schools, then head to Playa de La Fontanilla to admire its soaring honey-coloured cliffs.

Conil de la Frontera’s seaside vistas are best enjoyed from the breezy beachfront promenade. Stretch your legs on the boulevard and escape the sun in palm-filled Parque de la Atalaya. Al fresco cafes line the promenade and will tempt you with sangria, tapas and gorgeous ocean views.

Stroll around the Old Town and be lured into shops selling locally made handicrafts. If you enjoy seafood, be sure to sample local delicacies such as “atun encebollada” tuna cooked in caramelised onions and “chocos con patatas” cuttlefish stew. A narrow stone staircase winds up 15th-century Torre de Guzman and unlocks sweeping views over the Old Town and the Atlantic.

Every Friday, Mercadillo Ambulante comes alive with colourful street stalls selling clothing, handicrafts, art and antiques. You’ll also find street food stalls selling roasted nuts, churros and other local delicacies.

A handful of small but engaging museums make Conil de la Frontera a rewarding destination for history buffs. Admire local artefacts at the Raíces Conileñas Museum and learn about the village’s biggest claim to fame at the La Chanca Tuna Museum.

Getting around
