Where to stay in Bad Kissingen

About Bad Kissingen

Located on the banks of the Franconian Saale River, Bad Kissingen is a popular spa town in northern Bavaria renowned for its therapeutic mineral springs. It forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Great Spa Towns of Europe and is clustered with architectural monuments dating from the 12th century.

Things to do

Overlooking Bad Kissingen are the remains of Botenlauben Castle, which is believed to have been constructed around 1180. It fell victim to peasants from Aura an der Saale during the 16th-century Peasants' War, with the ghost of the cook who enabled their access said to still wander the castle today. Botenlauben Castle comes to life during the annual Burgfest when medieval activities are recreated.

Coincide your visit to Bad Kissingen with a performance at the Regentenbau, a grand concert hall elaborately adorned with Rococo and Art Nouveau decorations. It was constructed according to the plans of architect Max Littman in a Neo-Baroque style and has hosted big-name orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony and the Munich Philharmonic.

Take advantage of the health and wellness facilities at KissSalis Therme, which sprawls across 7,000 square metres. In addition to indoor and outdoor pools, it boasts several whirlpools, Finnish saunas and steam baths. You can be pampered during a massage at the Wellness Pavilion or get your heart pumping at the Fitness Arena. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the on-site bistro.

Getting around

Bad Kissingen is a 45-minute drive from Würzburg and just under two hours from the centre of Frankfurt and Frankfurt Airport. Trains connect from destinations across Bavaria to the Bad Kissingen railway station and buses travel throughout the town. The centre of Bad Kissingen is compact enough to explore on foot.
